1778 Revolutionary War - Samuel Merrill born
1790 Josiah Bartlett elected the first President of N.H.
1799 Uncle Sammy goes fishing and settles at the end of the road to "East Parte"
1806 Great Eclipse - Nathaniel Merrill born
War of 1812  
1849 Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad reaches Warren - Amos Merrill born
1860 Moosilauke Prospect House opens and Merrills begin the "Mountain Home" along the Carriage Road
1861 Civil War - Sammy dies in 1863 at age 85
1878 Nathaniel dies at 72 - Amos takes over
1879 The "Twins" - Lena and Fannie - born
1893 John Olin begins a dozen summers at Merrills
1899 The first auto reaches the Baker River valley - The Weirs sends its bridge north to become the "High Bridge" across the Baker River gorge
1904 Marjorie Phyllis Smith born to Lena Merrill Smith and A. Leroy Smith
1906 Lightning Strikes
1910 Last Merrill summer
1915 Mysterious fire destroys the Merrill's Mt. Home
1937 The Merrill Farm becomes part of the national heritage and the White Mt. National Forest
1942 Moosilauke Summit House disappears in a lightning storm
1953-4 The last train passes through the Baker River valley and the Moosilauke Inn at Breezy Point is destroyed in a fire
