Mt. Moosilauke (1915) - First Approach
". . . The Dartmouth Outing Club was organized in 1909, by Fred Harris '11 for the purpose of promoting and facilitating an interest in the out-of-doors at Dartmouth. Little by little it has acquired or leased land and built a chain of cabins and trails through the country near Hanover, reaching northward to the White Mountains. The Rev. John E. Johnson, class of 1866 at Dartmouth, was for many years a firm supporter of the Outing Club.
In the Fall of 1915 Rev. Johnson wrote a letter to Mr. E.K. Woodworth suggesting the possibility of acquiring the summit house on Moosilauke for the Dartmouth Outing Club. He intended it primarily for the use of the students as a headquarters at Moosilauke, which was already considered as the Dartmouth Mountain. At the time, the house was operating successfully and the suggestion of a transfer did not appeal to the company. . . ."
